This announcement supports the combined efforts of Elevated Sales and Phoenix Environmental to develop and deploy our Ohio-based water recycling technology. During a time of booming shale gas operations in Ohio, the need for water technology will be vital to safely and effectively handling the tidal wave of frac-water that is created by harvesting shale gas.
Elevated Sales and Phoenix Environmental are both working with ABSMaterials, Inc. and its subsidiary—PWAbsorbents, Inc.—in order to offer this technology to shale gas companies. ABS and PWA have engineered advanced systems that use a novel nanoglass, Osorb®, to recycle frac water. For this research, ABS received Ohio Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Entrepreneurship from Gov. Kasich and in 2010 received the NorTech Innovation Awards for Advanced Materials. Both past Governor Ted Strickland and Congressman John Boccieri have visited ABS and PWA, and Governor Kasich included the companies at the 2011 Ohio Energy Summit.
PWA is becoming the world’s innovation leader in frac and flowback recycling by raising best management practices. The DOE National Energy Technology Lab stated in a press release that PWA’s engineered systems could “remove more than 99 percent of oil and grease, more than 90 percent of dissolved BTEX, and significant amounts of production chemicals.” These groundbreaking systems have been supported by more than $1.3 million dollars in federal SBIR funding from the DOE and NSF. The companies have active projects in Canada, Norway and the Western United States.
With the planned 30,000-50,000 hydraulic fracturing wells planned in Ohio, it’s absurd and wasteful to believe disposal wells can keep up with the coming millions of gallons of frac water. Ohio has the chance to leapfrog the world’s global leaders in water recycling technology with a home-grown technology leader with proven global applications.
ABSMaterials and PWAbsorbents believe that Ohio can doubly benefit from the accidental bounty of being located above the Utica Shale, from both extracting the natural resources, while accelerating Ohio built technology.
Sincerely,
